Such a CRAZY weekend…the Moby Awards were a blast.  We didn’t win…but, c’mon, our little trailer (shot in a week on $3000 bucks) is gonna beat one put out by the Book Council of New Zealand?  And I still think ours was the best (yeah, I’m biased).  But, just like they say at the Oscars…it was an honor just to be nominated.  And it kinda was.

The whole thing was pretty hysterical…all these writers in formal attire watching trailers for books…I mean, the literary world (whatever that is) is notorious for taking itself too seriously…and I loved that this whole thing was meant to be funny.  Right down to the “red carpet”:

My favorite trailer of the night won Best Performance By An Author - Dennis Cass in Head Case:

And the Award for Best Book Trailer Goes to

Honestly, I’d never heard of a Book Trailer before this…but I think it is great.  Anything that gets people to read…well, I’m all for that.  And a bunch of my talented Gotham writing students came, which was so fun…and then, best of all, we had surprise guests!

The whole thing was totally last minute…but (spoiler alert) there is the strong possiblity that my book will be made into a film!  I can’t really say more right now, but theses people are so passionate about the project that they came came to NYC from Georgia, North Carolina and Miami for the Award ceremony…and did I mention Denmark?  The brilliant documentarian Tao Noranger (read about him here) is an old friend of Thomas…and, like any gifted documentary filmmaker who finds something intriguing (and thinks there is a possible story) he booked a flight, packed his camera and came all the way to NYC within 24 hours to catch the whole thing on his camera.  No pressure…but, damn, this movie better work out.

Director Rob Hill

And just so you know how grassroots this whole thing was…they all stayed in our 650 square foot apartment.  Six people.  And it was INSANE and AMAZING…and now the whole group truly does feel like family.  And I already miss them all!
