All the following pictures were taken by Alexsandra.  After the reading, she borrowed my camera for a half an hour.  When I clicked through my photos the next morning, what I saw overwhelmed me enough to leave the camera in the back of the taxi.  ’Cause I was crying.

Turns out, it isn’t always bad to talk to everyone.  I made a friend who worked at the hotel, and had my Facebook, and knew the cabdriver, who Alex refers to as “The one honest cabdriver in all of Bulgaria”, who gave her the camera, which she gave to Josip, who brought it to America and Fed-Exed it to me.  A miracle, maybe.  I was so sad when the camera was gone…and not because of the camera as much as these photos being lost forever.

I’m not sure how someone takes pictures like these.  It is a gift of which I am in awe.  Somehow, through the lens, Alexsandra caught the true nature of the subjects…these are people at their most real, not neccesarily the selves they show you on a daily basis, but who they are at their core.  And every one of them is beautiful.

Thank you, Alexsandra.
